While on his radio show on Sportsnet 650, Jason Brough had some pretty good points when discussing how the team is perceived by the media and the fan base in general.
Brough says that people think the media and fan base are only looking at the negatives, when they're trying to find the positives in each game as well. But at the same time, Brough adds that everyone needs to be realistic, and he's right.
The Canucks are bound to have their highs and lows throughout the 2023-24 season. Every team does, that's just how sports work. But if the team is going through a stretch where they're really bad, the media and the fan base shouldn't sugarcoat things and need to tell it as it is - that the team isn't playing well.
It's good to have conversations like this, especially in a hockey-craved market like Vancouver, where expectations are through the roof year in, year out. Are the Canucks going to be competitive for a playoff spot this year? Yes. Are they going to contend for the Stanley Cup? Probably not and even the team knows that.
The Canucks will have a chance to bounce back on Saturday night when they take on the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. PT.
