REPORT | Canucks reportedly set to sign former first-round pick: The liaison to the Canucks is evident
According to Rick Dhaliwal, the Vancouver Canucks are reportedly going to sign defenceman Cal Foote, the son of their current assistant coach and former NHLer Adam Foote.
Foote, 24, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round (14th overall) in 2017 and spent parts of six seasons in their system before being traded to the Nashville Predators during the 2022-23 campaign.
In 50 games with Tampa Bay and Nashville this past season, the Denver native had seven points (two goals, five assists), 53 penalty minutes and was a plus-six.
Foote was set to become a restricted free agent with Nashville, but Barry Trotz and the Predators have decided that he won't be issued a qualifying offer and now becomes an unrestricted free agent, likely to sign with the Canucks when the market opens on July 1st at 12 p.m. ET.
