A story has come to light from Bruce Boudreau's tenure with the Vancouver Canucks that makes it clear: a coaching change was needed.

Harman Dayal of The Athletic shared details of an incident when the Canucks coaching staff chose to take J.T Miller off of the penalty kill, only to reverse their course due to Miller's reaction.
He came up and he was pretty annoyed at me and said 'I want to be on this because I want to be part of the solution. I'm a good penalty killer, I'm not a bad penalty killer,'
Boudreau said of the interaction.
It's hard to argue when a guy comes up with that.

While some would admire the competitive nature of J.T Miller, others may question why Boudreau is allowing his players' opinions to dictate his lineup choices.
Boudreau tells the story to highlight Miller's competitive fire and leadership, but it also highlights that the former Canucks head coach did not have the firmest grasp on the locker room.
It's hard to imagine a conversation with Rick Tocchet ending the same way.
