Arena erupts after Matthew Tkachuk is assessed major penalty for dirty play on Jake Guentzel
The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Panthers 5-1 this afternoon in Game 3 of their best-of-seven first round matchup, earning their first win of the series.
Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk may soon be hearing from the NHL Department of Player Safety.
Late in the third period, just moments before
Anthony Cirelli's empty-net goal,
Guentzel was blindsided by
Tkachuk at centre ice. Tkachuk delivered the hit long after Guentzel had passed the puck up to Cirelli for the game's last goal.
Guentzel was slow to his feet after the hit but appeared to be ok, which is good news for the Lightning.
Tkachuk gets 5 minute major for late hit on Guentzel. Nasty hit. Jake looks to be ok.

A scrum ensued after the hit and Tkachuk was then assessed a 5-minute major, and was tossed for the rest of the game.

If Tkachuk does get suspended, it will definitely be a blow to the Panthers' offense considering he leads the team with 3 goals so far in the series.
