After the recent comments made president of hockey operation Jim Rutherford, a brand new blockbuster trade proposal has come to the surface involving the Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils.

As the Vancouver Canucks sit and watch the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff's from home, the real test comes in the offseason for management in order to upgrade their team so the same fate doesn't come to them in the 2025-2026 season.

Blockbuster trade proposal emerges between the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils.

At the end of the year press conference, president of hockey ops Jim Rutherford made some questionable comments about what it will take to keep Quinn Hughes a member of the Canucks.
When Hughes' contract expires in 2027, he highlighted indicating that it may not be about money but the fact he would like to play with his brothers Jack and Luke who are stars with the New Jersey Devils.
"It may not boil down to money with [Quinn],» Rutherford said. «He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here." - Rutherford
Although it could have been considered tampering, the NHL officially made their verdict and and decided it was not worthy of any punishment.
But, his remarks started a massive rumor mill that is now proposing what a trade would look like between the two teams, but, it appears the majority of them have Quinn Hughes leaving to new Jersey amid the limited assets to offer in order to get Jack Hughes to Vancouver.

Dougie Hamilton to the Vancouver Canucks, Quinn Hughes to the New Jersey Devils
If the Canucks are at risk of losing Quinn Hughes during Free-Agency if he doesn't sign an extension before 2027, general manager Patrik Allvin will have to make a deal to at least get some sort of a return for their star captain.
In conjunction with the risk of losing him, the Devils will need to clear cap space in order to retain a player of Quinn's caliber, meaning the larger contract of Dougie Hamilton make sense to shed in order to get the brothers to play with one another.
Hamilton feels like the kind of defenseman Rutherford and general manager Patrik Allvin would ask for. He's a mobile guy who can score. He's a little older than Hughes and he's got an injury history that has to be taken into account, but he's still a great player, and reliable, and that could soften the blow of losing your Norris Trophy-winning captain. - Hannah Stuart
