Pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser may be waiting to see who is named Vancouver's next head coach before deciding on his future with the club.

We're less than two months away from the National Hockey League's free agency window opening and the Vancouver Canucks still have plenty of big decisions to make on their own pending unrestricted free agents.
The most notable name that's set to hit the open market this summer is forward Brock Boeser, who reportedly turned down a contract extension prior to the trade deadline that was for five-years and worth $8 million annually.

Boeser Boeser's future in Vancouver could be tied to who's the next head coach

While Brock Boeser's future is certainly something the Vancouver Canucks would like to address in short order to avoid him leaving on July 1st, the first piece of business they need to take care of is finding a new head coach.
The Canucks are searching for their fourth head coach in the last four years following the departure of Rick Tocchet towards the end of April and one reporter believes that Brock Boeser's future could be tied to whoever the club names as their next bench boss.
During an appearance on Sekeres and Price on Monday, Patrick Johnston of The Province believes that Brock Boeser could be waiting to see who the Vancouver Canucks' next head coach will be before he makes a decision on if he'll stay or hit the free agent market on Canada Day.
Johnston went on to say however that he thinks there would've been a better chance at re-signing Brock Boeser if Rick Tocchet stayed on as the team's head coach.
"I think there is interest, I think there is absolutely interest, but Boeser...I think he's a guy that's very interested to see who the coach is, if there is any hope here. I think if Tocchet had come back, I think there's a better chance that he [Boeser] would have come back. I think he and Rick had quite a good relationship." Johnston said.
Brock Boeser has expressed his desire to stay on multiple occasions and the Vancouver Canucks are also hoping for the same, with General Manager Patrik Allvin telling season ticket holders last week they're working to see if they can get a deal done with the pending UFA.
"We're going to see if there's a chance to keep Brock Boeser." Patrik Allvin said.

Boeser, a native of Burnsville, Minnesota, finished the 2024-25 season with 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-25 in 75 games.
