Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has commented on the organization's decision to lock up forward Linus Karlsson to a multi-year contract extension.

After an impressive run in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, where he had 14 goals and 26 points in 24 games for the Abbotsford Canucks, Swedish forward Linus Karlsson earned himself a spot on the Vancouver Canucks' opening night roster back in October.
It was a well deserved honour for Karlsson and while many weren't sure how he'd adapt to everyday life in the National Hockey League, it's safe to say that he's exceeded expectations for the role he's spent the majority of the season in.
Thanks to his solid start to the season, the Vancouver Canucks decided to reward Linus Karlsson on Friday, signing him to a two-year contract extension, which kicks in ahead of the 2026-27 season, worth $4.5 million ($2.25 million AAV).
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with forward Linus Karlsson on a two-year contract with a $2.25 million AAV." the Canucks said on X.

Shortly after the contract was announced by the club, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin spoke about the signing, highlighting the growth in Linus Karlsson's game since arriving in the organization.
"Linus has taken a number of big steps since joining our organization. He has worked hard on his game, and we have been impressed with his development both on and off the ice. A leader last year for our Calder Cup Championship team in Abbotsford, Linus used that momentum and experience to solidify a position this year in Vancouver. We look forward to helping him continue to grow moving forward." Allvin said.

Karlsson, a native of Eksjo, Sweden, has registered 17 points (ten goals, seven assists), 24 penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 37 games during his first full season in the National Hockey League.
The 26-year-old centerman is going to be a key piece to Vancouver's hybrid retool plans over the next couple of years and will help provide some stability down the middle for Adam Foote while likely remaining in his usual bottom-six role.

Do you think $2.25 million AAV is a fair salary for what Linus Karlsson brings to the Vancouver Canucks' lineup?
