Elliotte Friedman Gives Update on Sweepstakes for Top Free Agent Jack Roslovic
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman gave an update over the weekend regarding the sweepstakes for top free agent Jack Roslovic, who Vancouver is hoping to sign.
In a perfect world, the Vancouver Canucks would've been able to add another centerman to their roster by now, especially after clearing cap space
by trading Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it's certainly dragged longer than anyone was expecting or hoping it would.
As of last week, Vancouver's
top center target appears to be Jack Roslovic, a former first round pick who most recently was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes, who is
reportedly seeking a three-year deal.
"We know [the Canucks have] been in contact with Roslovic's team, a good amount; there's a handful of clubs that are kicking the tires on him." Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects said.
He added, "He was expecting this to take while; I'm not even 100% sure that [the Canucks have] put a solid offer in front of him yet.
His camp is looking for ideally a three year deal."
Elliotte Friedman gives update on sweepstakes for top UFA Jack Roslovic
On Sunday morning, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman released a mid-summer edition of his 32 Thoughts podcast where he discussed quite a bit including the NHL keeping the decentralized draft format, Hockey Canada's upcoming Olympic orientation camp and Jack Roslovic, who is undoubtedly the top free agent still available.
According to Elliotte Friedman, there are around five-to-six teams that have shown interest in Jack Roslovic this summer, including the Toronto Maple Leafs and but he hasn't found anything that he's liked when it comes to term and money as of this past weekend.
"He's the best available player remaining. And, obviously, he hasn't found anything he 100 percent likes. But there are definitely a few teams poking around there. I've heard five or six teams. So, he needs to get to something he feels comfortable with," Friedman said.
Roslovic, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is coming off pretty solid season for the Carolina Hurricanes, one that saw him tie a career-high in goals (22), finishing the year with 39 points in 81 games, along with four points in nine postseason contests.
With Vancouver presumably among the five-to-six teams that Friedman says are in on Jack Roslovic, they're likely going to have to blow him out of the water with an offer in order to land his services, especially with a contender like Toronto also vying for him.
