Elliotte Friedman Issues Significant Statement on Why Brock Boeser's Future with the Canucks is Likely Over
Elliotte Friedman gives an update on the big reason Canucks star forward won't resign with the team this offseason.
Canucks star forward Brock Boeser unlikely to sign an extension with Vancouver this offseason due to term.
Elliotte Friedman joined Ron MacLean to talk some of the NHL's top stories on Saturday Headlines, incuding Boeser's unlikelyhood of signing an extension with the Canucks.
NHL Watcher took to X Saturday evening to break the news that Boeser and the Canucks are having trouble extending him due to term.
Friedman on Headlines says term is the big issue between Boeser and the Canucks.
Boeser told Sportsnet he plans to wait until the season concludes before having any contract discussions with his agent, Ben Hankinson.
Here's what Friedman had to say on Headlines in Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
I understand the big issue here is term. Never say never but term is the issue that both Boeser and the Canucks find hard to bridge." -Friedman
Now in his ninth NHL season, Boeser is the longest-serving member of the Canucks and is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He's currently playing out the final year of a three-year, $19.95 million contract (with an average annual value of $6.65 million) that he signed on July 1, 2022.
Chosen 23rd overall by Vancouver in the 2015 NHL Draft, Boeser has recorded 433 points (204 goals, 229 assists) over 551 regular-season games, along with 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 29 playoff appearances.
