New Vancouver Canucks winger Evander Kane had a lot to say after his first informal skate with his new team, and with those comments, he has notified his general manager Patrik Allvin where he plans to play this season.
Coming into this offseason, it was obvious to fans and to management that there were some major holes to fill through a trade or signing, but no big moves ever really came to fruition and the disappointment is resounding.
As a consolation, the Canucks did make one splash this offseason, completing a trade with the Edmonton Oilers for controversial winger Evander Kane, who is thrilled about playing for his hometown club with his friends and family around.
Evander Kane tells Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin that he is expecting to play with Elias Pettersson this season
After the teams first informal practice, Kane made some very big comments about his new teammate Elias Pettersson, giving him some pretty eye-opening praise.
"He's a guy who obviously skates really well. He's able to handle the puck through the neutral zone. He has great speed." Kane said.
He added, "I've played with a couple of guys like that in my career and I think It's imperative to help them create space through the neutral zone off the rush and, at the same time, let their attributes make yours even better. Getting open, finding the right spot to be to get the puck, reading off of them.

With that in mind, it really does appear the Kane wants to have a big season with the Canucks and he has notified Patrik Allvin in an interview that he expects to play with Pettersson on the first-line in order to make the biggest impact.
"You obviously want to play with the best players available as much as possible. I anticipate that's probably going to happen at some point. It will be about using our skill sets to our advantage to build as much chemistry and as much success as possible." Kane said.
After a strong offseason from both Elias Pettersson and Kane, it does appear that they will be 2/3 players making up the first line, which will hopefully stick after the constant changes last season under head coach Adam Foote.
One thing is for sure, Kane will be under the microscope from day one, and the Vancouver market will make their feelings known if he is not playing up to par.
