Former Vancouver Canucks fan favourite Alex Edler sent a message to captain Quinn Hughes on Monday afternoon after he broke a franchise record over the weekend.

Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes entered the 2025-26 season with a ton of uncertainty surrounding his future in the Lower Mainland, with the blueliner eligible to sign a contract extension as of July 1st next summer.
With his name involved in trade rumors all summer long, the Canucks captain isn't too bothered by it and says he's able to handle the noise as he looks to help his club return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the spring.
"One thing I'm really good at - or have gotten good at - is I'm very present. I can't even sign for another year, so there's nothing I can do. As far as the noise (about his future), I can handle the noise. That's why I'm the captain of the team, because I can handle these things and I can play at an elite level and it doesn't matter what's going on around me." Hughes said.

Over the weekend, the Canucks played their second game of the 2025-26 season as they took on the Oilers in Edmonton and Quinn Hughes had a huge opportunity in front of him and the chance to write his name in the franchise's record books.
In the third period, Hughes picked up an assist on Brock Boeser's goal and in doing so, became the Vancouver Canucks all-time leader for points by a defenseman with 410, surpassing Alex Edler, who held the record for four years.
"HISTORY MADE!

Captain Quinn Hughes sets a new standard of excellence becoming the all-time points leader for a #Canucks defenceman." the Canucks shared on X.
Halfway through the first period of Monday's matinee against the St. Louis Blues, the Vancouver Canucks played a message on the video board from Alex Edler to Quinn Hughes, congratulating him on the incredible accomplishment.
In the message, Edler said that he hopes to see Hughes lead the Vancouver Canucks to their first-ever Stanley Cup at some point in the near future.
"Alex Edler congratulating Quinn Hughes on breaking his #Canucks record.

He adds: "I hope you one day lead this team to a Stanley Cup." Rob Williams of Daily Hive said in a social media post yesterday.
While Quinn Hughes might have been held off the scoresheet during Monday's loss to St. Louis, there's no question he's going to be a key contributor on the Vancouver Canucks' upcoming five-game road trip, which begins on Thursday night against the Dallas Stars.
Hopefully, Hughes can lead the Canucks to at least three wins on the road trip and they can come home with at least a .500 record in the NHL's standings.
