Eye-Opening Report Claims Vancouver Canucks May Have Already Completed a Trade Behind the Scenes
A report suggests that the Vancouver Canucks could already have a trade in the works, which lines up with some decisions the team have made recently.
The latter part of June and early July is typically the busiest time of the year for teams around the National Hockey League because of the draft and the start of free agency, both key dates that have also brought some significant trades in the past.
With
the promise from Jim Rutherford that the team will be aggressive this summer, could we see the Vancouver Canucks complete a big trade around the draft or even have one already completed, but are waiting for the Stanley Cup Final to conclude before announcing it?
Report suggests Vancouver Canucks may already have trade in the works
In an article on Canucks Army this week, Stephan Roget gave a few reasons as to why he believes the Vancouver Canucks might already have a deal in the works this month.
Roget believes if the Vancouver Canucks are to move that pick, it'll likely come on draft day as teams will want to see who is still available when it's time to select 15th overall before pulling the trigger on a deal.
"And our fourth, and final, reason why the Canucks might just be sitting on a trade without announcing it is the high probability that said trade involves their 2025 first round selection, slotted at 15th overall.
That's quite far into the draft. And that means there's a good chance that certain teams are interested in the pick, but only if certain draftees are still available when it actually comes time for the 15th selection." Roget said.
Plenty of scouts have shared their thoughts on this year's draft not being as deep as recent years or next year, which would lead a team like the Vancouver Canucks to move on from it in order for them to get some help for their NHL roster right now.
Last week, the Vancouver Canucks
didn't send either Jim Rutherford or Patrik Allvin to
the NHL Draft Combine in Buffalo, New York, which fueled speculation that the 15th overall pick is in play leading up to the first round on June 27th.
Roget also shared that the fact the Stanley Cup Final is ongoing, with teams wanting to respect that and not draw attention away from it with a trade,
along with Abbotsford being in the Calder Cup Final and they could have a player or two involved, as two more reasons why a deal hasn't been announced just yet.
It's going to be interesting to see if a deal is in the work involving the Vancouver Canucks and what player/assets Patrik Allvin could be shipping out of town and receiving, hopefully to improve the NHL roster next season.
