Former Stanley Cup Champion Named as Very Real Possibility to Replace Canucks 40-Goal Scorer
A former Stanley Cup champion has been named as a potential replacement for Brock Boeser, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.
Vancouver is
expected to lose Brock Boeser to the free agent market on July 1st, which will leave a really big hole on the right side in their top six, however, there are plenty of names the team could target via trade this summer as a replacement for the Burnsville, Minnesota native.
Former Stanley Cup champion emerges as potential replacement for Brock Boeser
As Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford evaluate their options over the next few weeks when it comes to potential replacements for Brock Boeser, some interesting options have been mentioned by Tyson Cole of Canucks Army.
In an article this week, Cole mentions 2022 Stanley Cup champion and former 10th overall pick
Valeri Nichushkin as a player the Vancouver Canucks could replace Brock Boeser with, if the Colorado Avalanche are willing to part with him this summer.
"The Russian forward would be a nice replacement for Boeser with his scoring touch. Nichushkin is averaging 0.43 goals per game (91 goals in 212 games) over the last four seasons with the Avalanche. He has been a reliable presence on the power play, spending most of his time in the bumper spot, scoring 36 goals with the man-advantage." Cole said.
Nichushkin, a native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, has five years remaining on his contract with the Colorado Avalanche, which comes with an AAV of $6.125 million and with the team tight to the cap this summer, they may need to move money out.
The 30-year-old appeared in 43 games during the regular season for the Avalanche in 2024-25 due to an injury, but was quite effective when he was in the lineup, registering 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists), eight penalty minutes and was a plus-11.
While Valeri Nichushkin could be a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks and could even replace Brock Boeser's production, his contract situation is far from ideal and Patrik Allvin would likely be better off searching elsewhere for a replacement in the top-six.
