A former Vancouver Canucks forward & first round pick of the San Jose Sharks has inked a multi-year deal overseas after he was claimed off waivers earlier this week.

While it may have been a slow and quiet offseason here in North America, there has been quite a bit of action surrounding former members of the Vancouver Canucks, whether it be heading to Europe for the first time in their career, like Daniel Sprong, or finding a new club abroad for the 2025-26 season.
The KHL will be home to a number of former Vancouver Canucks this coming season, which begins in less than two weeks, and for one of them, after finding a new home on Monday, they've managed to land a multi-year contract with one of the biggest clubs in Russia.

Last Saturday, Spartak Moscow made a bit of a shocking announcement that they were placing former Vancouver Canuck Nikolay Goldobin on waivers after two seasons with the club, where he put up 133 points in 129 games.
"Spartak forward Nikolai Goldobin has been placed on the KHL waiver list. Within 48 hours, any KHL club can offer the player to continue his career in its system." the club said.

A number of teams across the KHL were interested in placing a claim on Goldobin, including the Shanghai Dragons, but it was SKA St. Petersburg who ended up getting their hands on the 29-year-old, who will become his fourth club since heading to Russia prior to the 2020-21 campaign.
"Goldobin has spent the past five seasons in the KHL playing for CSKA Moscow, Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Spartak, recording 277 points in 339 regular-season and playoff games. - Derek O'Brien said.

Despite already having a contract in place for the 2025-26 campaign, it appears that Goldobin and SKA St. Petersburg have worked out a new deal, with the club announcing on Saturday that they've agreed to terms on a three-year contract that'll run through the 2027-28 season.
Note: the following is translated from Russian
"Meet Nikolai Goldobin 👋

SKA has signed a three-year contract with the forward - the agreement is set to last until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Welcome to St. Petersburg!" the team said on social media.
The former Canucks forward is likely to feature in a preseason game or two with the club over the next week, but will officially make his SKA St. Petersburg debut during their 2025-26 season opener on Saturday, September 6th against the Shanghai Dragons.
