Some new information has emerged regarding the potential availability of one of the top pending unrestricted free agent defenseman heading into the 2025-26 season.

Despite some insider expecting it to be a busy offseason with trades, even carrying into August, the exact opposite has happened and it's ended up being one of the quietest summers in the NHL in the last decade.
Teams have been trying to add however, including the Vancouver Canucks - who are still looking for a second line centerman - but asking prices on the trade market are still quite high as we head into the final week of August.
At this time, the Vancouver Canucks aren't necessarily in need of another addition to their blue line, however there is one intriguing name that has been made available this summer that Patrik Allvin should absolutely consider submitting an offer for.

Calgary Flames' Rasmus Andersson available for trade this summer

The Calgary Flames and defenseman Rasmus Andersson, who is arguably one of their best blueliners, haven't appeared to make any traction on a contract extension this summer, which has led General Manager Craig Conroy to speak with other clubs about a potential deal.
In a recent interview with Swedish media outlet Expressen, Andersson revealed that the Calgary Flames approached him earlier this summer about an opportunity to be dealt to another club, which remains unnamed at this time, that also included a long-term contract extension.
Andersson said that he turned down the trade and contract extension from the other club because of family reasons and unless another team steps up their effort for the Swedish blueliner, there's a good chance he'll begin the year in Calgary.

"I thought about a lot of things. I talked to my family and thought that right then and there, I wasn't really keen on moving my family there and signing a long-term contract; that's what it all came down to," Andersson said.

He added, "I have not given Calgary a team. I haven't actually spoken to Calgary since they made the request, which was a month and a half ago"

Reports have circulated stating that the team who submitted a trade offer and contract extension for Rasmus Andersson was a fellow Pacific Division club, the Los Angeles Kings, however the Flames defenceman understandably refused to confirm or deny that it was them.
"I'm not going to say if it was Los Angeles or maybe another team. Only I know that. A team made a very good offer, that's all." Andersson said.

Andersson, 28, would be an excellent addition to the Vancouver Canucks' blue line, but only if Patrik Allvin is able to make room, with one scenario being a move involving Tyler Myers, but there's no guarantee he'll be dealt by the club anytime soon.
One thing that helps the Vancouver Canucks in this situation is their relationship with the Calgary Flames on the trade market, even though it was under a different General Manager for the Alberta-based club, with Patrik Allvin bringing in Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm in separate deals within a two month span.
We'll have to wait and see how this situation unfolds in the months ahead, but there's no question that if the Calgary Flames are out of the playoff picture by trade deadline day, that they're prepared to move on from Rasmus Andersson after 500+ games with the organization
