A former Vancouver Canucks forward has made a big decision about where he's going to play for the remainder of the season after having his contract terminated.
After making the move to the Shanghai Dragons in the offseason, former Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Spooner had high hopes for his seventh year in the Kontinental Hockey League and while he played quite well for the club, registering 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 31 games, his time there came to a close just before Christmas.
A few days prior to Christmas, Ryan Spooner and the Shanghai Dragons decided to mutually terminate his contract, which made him an unrestricted free agent for the second time in six months.
"The Shanghai Dragons and forward Ryan Spooner have mutually terminated their contract." The KHL said last month.

It didn't take Ryan Spooner too long to find his next landing spot as the 33-year-old headed to Switzerland where he agreed to terms on a deal with National League side Lausanne HC.
"We are delighted to welcome Ryan to Lausanne until the end of the season. Given the injuries to Antti Suomela and Dominik Kahun, it was important to strengthen our foreign contingent during a very demanding January. Ryan brings his experience, his vision of the game, and his ability to produce offensively." HC Lausanne's Sporting Director John Fust said.
However, Ryan Spooner's time with Lausanne HC has come to an end a little over three weeks after signing with them as he's decided to head back to the KHL for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
Ahead of the KHL's trade/transaction deadline, it was announced that Belarusian club Dynamo Minsk has signed the Ottawa, Ontario native for the rest of the season.
Note: the following has been translated from Russian
"Ryan Spooner is the new player of Dynamo Minsk. The forward, well known to Minsk fans, returned to the Zubrs team after two seasons." Dynamo Minsk said after signing Ryan Spooner.

This will mark Ryan Spooner's second stint with Dynamo Minsk after spending parts of three seasons with them in 2019/20-2020/21 and again in 2022-23 where he registered 123 points (35 goals, 88 assists) in 146 games.
