'High Interest': Insider Says Elias Pettersson May Be Heading to the New York Islanders For Top-4 Defenseman
A new report indicates that the Vancouver Canucks have "high interest" in acquiring defenseman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders, but are they willing to give up Elias Pettersson for him.
The news was first reported by The Hockey News' Stefen Rosner, who has heard rumblings that the Vancouver Canucks have high interest in New York Islanders defenceman Noah Dobson as a part of a deal that would involve one of Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller.
This narrative of the Canucks wanting to acquire an upgrade on defense is not new, just the pressure to get a deal done has sky rocketed since captain Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek are out of the lineup for the foreseeable future with respective injuries.
The idea first came when the Vancouver Canucks media asked former captain Bo Horvat about the issues surrounding his former teammates Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller.
He stated if given the chance, he would love to play alongside Pettersson again.
"Oh god, yeah," Horvat laughed. "He's a special player. He's a really good person. He's a special player that I respect a lot. I've had a lot of good success with him, too, in the past. But yeah, if I get a chance to play with him again, I would love to. We could use him."
After these comments, the trade rumors and proposals started swirling.
Vancouver Canucks Interested in defenseman Noah Dobson
Dobson has struggled this season compared to last, recording just five goals, 15 assists, and 20 points in 39 games. However, much of that can be attributed to the Islanders' overall offensive struggles. The 24-year-old had 70 points in 79 games in the 2023-24 season. - Scott Maxwell
It is clear the Vancouver Canucks want and NEED a defenseman and with the down year to Noah Dobson, he may be a good fit to get a big return for Elias Pettersson.
«Per industry sources, pending restricted free agent Noah Dobson is high on the Canucks list if the Islanders elect to move the 24-year-old.»
With that in mind, the trade would send Elias Pettersson to the Islanders for Noah Dobson, Pierre Engvall and a 1st-roound pick.
With the trade deadline approaching and concluding on March 7th, both the Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders are going to have to make a decision on what best for their team.
