Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford spoke about Quinn Hughes' future during an appearance on Amazon's Monday Night Hockey.

It's been six months since Jim Rutherford discussed the possibility of Quinn Hughes leaving the Vancouver Canucks organization, mentioning that he has expressed a desire to play with his brothers at some point, which set off a firestorm across the fan base and the league.
"It may not boil down to money with [Quinn]. He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here." Rutherford said.

After months of rumors about his future, Hughes is focused on helping his team on the ice and isn't worried about his contract status just yet, with his goal being to get the Canucks back to where they belong - the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Jim Rutherford talks about Quinn Hughes' future with the Vancouver Canucks

Monday's game against the St. Louis Blues was one of four games the Vancouver Canucks will be shown on Amazon as part of their Monday Night Hockey broadcasts and during the first intermission, Jim Rutherford sat down to speak with James Cybulski and Mike Rupp.
During the interview, Rutherford was asked about captain Quinn Hughes and his future with the Vancouver Canucks with less than two years until he can become an unrestricted free agent.
Rutherford said that the team just wants to see him work hard, be a great leader and to just focus on this season because the club doesn't have a "deadline" to get something done in terms of a contract, but understands that there are going to be rumors, adding that it's part of sports.
"Of course everybody's going to talk about Quinn. Quinn's one of the best defencemen in the league if not the best, he was two seasons ago. Everybody knows what the situation is, but all we can ask of him and it's exactly what he's doing now. He came into camp in a great mood, he's worked hard, he leads the team, he's a good player." Rutherford said.

He added, "Just focus on this season. We don't have a deadline this season, and we know that people are going to talk about this over and over, it's all part of sports, that's ok, but at the same time he's gotta stay focused with the team, lead the team, do what he's capable of doing, and then we'll see where it goes."

For now, Vancouver Canucks fans shouldn't worry too much about Quinn Hughes and his contract status and while it's easier said than done, nothing can really be determined about his future with the club until July 1st next summer.
