The Vancouver Canucks secured their third win in a row defeating the New York Islanders 4-1, Kiefer Sherwood was the star of the show recording his second hat-trick this season, and it's starting to become apparent that he should succeed Quinn Hughes as the next captain.
"The Vancouver Canucks are ready for the next chapter in their franchise, as they make everyone available for trade, Kiefer Sherwood has been in the rumour mill lately, and Paul Bissonnette believes the Tampa Bay Lightning are going to make a run at him."-Stinson
Kiefer Sherwood has a chance to be next captain of the Vancouver Canucks.
CBS Sports reported on Sherwood's most recent game and how impressive he was, he now has 16 goals on the season and is leading his team in every aspect of the word. He plays every shit like it's his last, finishing every check, winning every puck battle and scoring a lot of goals while doing it.
"Sherwood bagged two goals in the first period, including one on the power play, before completing the hat trick with an empty-netter in the final frame. This was Sherwood's second hat trick of the season, as he already achieved this mark against the Blues on Oct. 30. He has 16 goals on the season."-CBS
Sherwood possesses all the qualities a captain needs, and would be an excellent role model for the young talent the Canucks have brought in. Unfortunately it's likely not to happen, because the Canucks will use him as a trade to get even younger.
It's also likely that Sherwood doesn't re-sign with the team, the Canucks want to get younger, and probably would not sign Sherwood anyway if he asks for too much of a raise, he belongs on a contender, who can use his services to get them over the hump. The Canucks should trade him before the trade deadline to avoid losing him for nothing. But it doesn't take away from how good of a captain he'd be.
