Lindholm's time with the Vancouver Canucks has been pretty mediocre thus far. He hasn't played terribly, but he also hasn't played as well as many fans were hoping. In 17 games with the Canucks since the trade, Lindholm has seven points (four goals, three assists), four penalty minutes and is a minus-four.
Roughly one week before the National Hockey League's trade deadline, rumours were swirling that the Canucks were already going to move on from Elias Lindholm, with some insiders reporting that a three-team deal was discussed between Boston, Pittsburgh and Vancouver that would've seen the 29-year-old Swede join his brother and become a Bruin. As the deadline passed at 3 p.m. ET last Friday, Lindholm remained a Canuck, but there appeared to be some tension.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks were not happy that Elias Lindholm's name got out before the trade deadline and it resulted in some tough conversations between management, Lindholm and his representatives.
It's going to be interesting to see if the Vancouver Canucks are able to sign Elias Lindholm once the season concludes or if the forward wants to test the open market on July 1st. Vancouver's cap situation may make it difficult to re-sign Lindholm, especially with other key free agents they need to lock up including Filip Hronek and Vasily Podkolzin, among others.
