We know that even though they've been the team with the most completed trade since the season started, the Canucks are still very much active on the market. Linked on many occasions to the former Canuck, Chris Tanev, there's a strong feeling within the team's upper management that he could be their puzzle's missing piece.

The Canucks will, however, have to beat out several other suitors in Canada for Chris Tanev's services if they want to bring the defenceman back. Rick Dhaliwal said on Sportsnet 650's Halford and Brough that the Oilers have a strong interest in Tanev.

Sources say the Oilers are making a push for Tanev. You certainly don't want him going to that team if you're the Canucks, for sure. Dallas has a high interest in Tanev. Many others: Maple Leafs still in there, Winnipeg (too).

He said the Canucks are still very interested in Tanev, but the team is reluctant to deal with others first, and a bidding war may drive the price there.

The team wants a defenceman ahead of the March 8 deadline.
