Vancouver Canucks fans were pretty shocked to see goaltender Thatcher Demko leave Saturday's game for unknown reasons at the time. Casey DeSmith came in a shut the door, helping the Canucks to a big 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets, but questions remain - What is going on with Thatcher Demko?
While the extent of his injury is still not known or what specifically he injured, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK TV shared in a post on X that Demko will miss 'a few games' and that the Canucks will call up a goaltender from AHL Abbotsford.
It's been a solid season for Demko thus far and there's no doubt that once the season concludes, he'll be announced as one of the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender for the 2023-24 campaign.
In 49 games this season, the San Diego native has a record of 34-13-2 with a 2.47 goals against average, a .917 save percentage and five shutouts.
As for who Patrik Allvin may call up from the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks, the most likely option is Arturs Silovs, who was named MVP at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship last May. Silovs has five games of NHL experience and has been the starter this season with Abbotsford where he's sported a 15-11-6 record, with four shutouts, in 33 games.
