A legendary Vancouver Canucks goaltender, who played a big role in their trip to the 1994 Stanley Cup Final, has joined an incredible cause in British Columbia alongside his wife.

Vancouver Canucks fans, at least those that were around at the time, will always remember the team's run to the Stanley Cup Final in 1994, with the city buzzing all spring long, before they unfortunately fell to the New York Rangers in seven games.
A big reason for Vancouver's success that year was the stellar play of goaltender Kirk McLean, someone who is still loved by fans across the city for what he did during his 11 seasons as a Canuck.

According to CTV News, the former Canucks goaltender and his wife, Genevieve Duford-McLean, teamed up with the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation in their fight to find a cure for cancer.
The foundation is looking to raise $35 million CAD for their campaign, which is dubbed "Greater Than Cancer" with cancer cases in the province projected to rise by an eye-opening 75 percent in the years to come.
"Former Vancouver Canucks goalie Kirk McLean and his wife Genevieve Duford-McLean, have joined an effort to raise $35 million for cancer care and research in British Columbia.

The couple, who have both been personally affected by cancer, are lending their support to the Greater Than Cancer campaign, a fundraising initiative for the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation." CTV News said.

McLean said to CTV News that he lost both of his parents to cancer when they were in their 60s, while his wife Genevieve has fought the disease three times in her life.
"When I was younger, there was a 30-per-cent chance (of survival). Those cancers are now in the 90s," she said.

She added, "If this was me 40 years ago, I wouldn't be sitting here.

All around the province, if you have cancer, you will go through VGH, in pathology or somewhere."
