Some big decisions are looming for the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow after General Manager Patrik Allvin decided not to use the NHL's waiver wire on Sunday.

Later this week, the Vancouver Canucks will open up the 2025-26 season on home ice against the Calgary Flames, with the organization hoping for a big bounce back year after missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the spring.
As teams around the league continue to make their final cuts, today was the final day to use the NHL's waiver wire before opening night rosters need to be submitted and in a bit of a surprising decision, the Vancouver Canucks opted against doing so, according to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali.
"No Canucks on waivers today" Dhaliwal said on X.

Vancouver Canucks have big decisions to make on Monday after not using waiver wire

By not using the waiver wire on Sunday, it all but confirms that forwards Arshdeep Bains and Aatu Raty have made the Vancouver Canucks' opening night roster.
Aside from the team's forward group, it looks like Patrik Allvin's biggest decision(s) on Monday will come on the backend, with Canucks News Summaries on X suggesting that the club could place one of Derek Forbort or Pierre-Olivier Joseph on injured reserve tomorrow, with only one cut needing to be made after that.
The one cut, as Canucks News Summaries mentions, could be 2023 first round pick Tom Willander, who is making the jump to professional hockey this season after two years in the NCAA with Boston University.
"Most likely scenario is that Forbort or POJ will start the season on IR.

Canucks would only need to send one player down tomorrow with Willander being the most likely candidate." Canucks News Summaries said.
Fans are also awaiting word on it 2025 first round pick Braeden Cootes will be on the opening night roster tomorrow after an impressive training camp and on Sunday, the 18-year-old was skating on a line flanked by veteran forward Evander Kane and 2022 first rounder Jonathan Lekkerimaki - a good sign for his chances to begin the season in Vancouver.
"Sunday #Canucks practice lines

DeBrusk. EP40. Boeser.
Bains. Chytil. Garland.
Kane. Cootes. Lekkerimäki.
O'Connor. Räty. Sherwood.
Karlsson.

Hughes. Hronek.
MP29. Myers.
EP25. Mancini.
Willander.

Absent: Blueger, Forbort, Joseph" Brendan Batchlor of Sportsnet 650 shared on X.
We'll have to wait and see what Vancouver's final cuts are on Monday and what decisions Patrik Allvin makes, as anticipation builds for the team's 56th season in the National Hockey League.
