Manny Malhotra gave an update last night after defenseman Parker Alcos was forced to leave Sunday's Prospects Showcase game against the Seattle Kraken.
The Vancouver Canucks' Rookie Camp might not wrap up until tomorrow, but their Prospects Showcase games against the Seattle Kraken came to a close on Sunday with a 3-2 win, with
Jonathan Lekkerimaki opening the scoring, while Finnish netminder
Aku Koskenvuo made 21 saves in the victory.
Manny Malhotra gives update on Parker Alcos after leaving Sunday's game
As the third period was set to get underway last night, the Vancouver Canucks announced on social media that defenseman Parker Alcos would not be returning to the game.
"Defenceman Parker Alcos will not return to tonight's game." the Canucks said.
Alcos, who is entering his second season as a Vancouver Canucks prospect, is hoping to take a step forward this year with the Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings after putting up 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 57 games, following that up with two assists in seven playoff contests.
If the Port Moody, British Columbia native is able to show some progression in his game this coming season, there's certainly a possibility he could be in line for a spot on Abbotsford's roster in the fall of 2026.
The injury to Alcos is still unclear as of Monday morning, but after Sunday's win in Seattle, Manny Malhotra told reporters that the blueliner leaving the game was just precautionary.
"Many Malhotra confirms that Parker Alcos missed the third period due to 'precautionary reasons.'" Dave Hall said on X.
With
training camp just a few days away, we'll have to wait and see if the 19-year-old Alcos is ready to go and accompanies the Canucks to Penticton or if he'll be among those cut tomorrow following the conclusion of Rookie Camp.
The Canucks will begin training camp on Thursday and are set to open up the preseason on Sunday against the Kraken at 5 pm PT, with their first televised game coming on Friday, September 26th, also against Seattle which can be seen on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet 360.
