A trade proposal has emerged in recent days that would see Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin land Quinn Hughes' brother from the New Jersey Devils.

Last Friday, a report came out stating that the New Jersey Devils and restricted free agent Luke Hughes were in a disagreement over the term of his next contract, with less than three weeks to go until training camp opens.
"The main obstacle, according to NJ.com, is that the Hughes camp wants a five-year deal, to align Luke's contract with that of brother Jack Hughes' deal. This would conceivably set up both brothers to be unrestricted free agents ahead of the 2030-31 season.

The Devils, on the other hand, want Luke Hughes to sign either a three-year bridge deal or a full eight-year extension." Sportsnet said on Friday.

Because of this, it has reignited trade rumors regarding the RFA blueliner trade rumors regarding the RFA blueliner and there's no question that if he were to become available, Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks would at least inquire to see what it would cost to bring him to British Columbia.

Trade proposal sees Vancouver Canucks land Quinn Hughes' brother from New Jersey Devils

On Saturday, one day after the news of Luke Hughes' contract disagreement in New Jersey, Nestor Quixtan of Heavy.com suggested an interesting trade proposal that would see Patrik Allvin unite him with his brother Quinn in Vancouver.
Quixtan's proposal sees the Vancouver Canucks land Luke Hughes from New Jersey in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick and defensive prospect Victor Mancini, who is someone that the organization has been really high on since acquiring him from the New York Rangers in January.
That situation is an opportunity the Canucks could capitalize on. So, why not explore a wild trade idea that involves sending Luke Hughes to Vancouver? Such a trade could fulfill a part of Quinn Hughes' dream, while ensuring the Canucks keep their captain." Quixtan said.

"Here's what the trade could look like:

Canucks get:

- Luke Hughes, D

Devils get:

- 2026 first-round pick
- Victor Mancini, D"

Hughes, 21, has been a solid point producer from the back end for the New Jersey Devils in each of his first two seasons in the National Hockey League, putting up 47 (9 G, 38 A) and 44 (4 G, 37 A) in 2023-24 and 2024-25, respectively.
If the Vancouver Canucks were able to land Luke Hughes for an unprotected 2026 first round pick and Victor Mancini, that would be a bit of a surprise as there's no question that Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald would want one of the team's top prospects in return - Tom Willander, Jonathan Lekkerimaki or Braeden Cootes.
