An underrated Vancouver Canucks prospect may reportedly be in line to make his National Hockey League debut at some point during the 2025-26 season.
Training camp,
which begins in about three weeks, will give the organization a good idea of what they have in their system and who could be a potential call up from the American Hockey League throughout the season in case of an injury or trade.
Patrik Allvin will have some fresh faces to possibly call upon this season, especially on the blue line, with two of of their prospects potentially in line to make their debut in the National Hockey League during the upcoming campaign.
Vancouver Canucks prospect could potentially make NHL debut this season
The Vancouver Canucks' strength heading into the 2025-26 season might be on the blue line, with the club having a ton of depth at the position both in the NHL and down in Abbotsford.
As mentioned, two of their prospects -
Tom Willander and
Sawyer Mynio are going to be playing in the American Hockey League this season, their rookie year in professional hockey and if all goes well for them, they could be potential options to be called up by Allvin & Co.
In a recent article for The Hockey Writers, Lukas Bernasiewicz suggested that 20-year-old defensive prospect Sawyer Mynio could be a potential call-up for the Vancouver Canucks this season.
"As a skilled defender, Mynio will fit in well in Abbotsford and have the opportunity to further improve his game, learning from some of Vancouver's top prospects. If Mynio continues on the trajectory he is on, I could definitely see him getting a call-up during the season if the Canucks need another defender." Bernasiewicz said.
Mynio, a native of Kamloops, British Columbia, is set to make the jump to professional hockey after four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Calgary Hitmen, winning a championship with the former during the 2022-23 campaign.
Given the depth Vancouver has on the blue line and the fact he's just starting his professional career and needs time to get adjusted to this level, it's hard to see Mynio making his NHL debut this season, but perhaps fans could see him on the ice for the Canucks the following year - 2026-27.
