An insider doesn't believe it'll cost a lot or nearly as much as people think for Minnesota Wild restricted free agent forward Marco Rossi, who the Vancouver Canucks have been linked to.

The Vancouver Canucks are going to have numerous options to consider this summer as the team's management group of Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin search for a second line centerman to play behind Elias Pettersson.
Since the J.T. Miller trade in late January, the Vancouver Canucks used a few different players in that second line center hole including Filip Chytil and Pius Suter, but the team is looking for a more permanent option and one player that's been in the rumor mill lately is Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild.

Insider gives big update on potential return in a Marco Rossi trade

With the Minnesota Wild and Marco Rossi reportedly not seeing eye-to-eye in contract talks, the team began taking calls on the Austrian forward, but as one could've guessed, they would prefer not to trade him this summer.
After a strong 2024-25 season, which saw a 20-point jump in production when compared to the year prior, there will be a number of teams that'll be pursuing Marco Rossi in the weeks ahead and last week, Michael Russo of The Athletic confirmed Vancouver's interest in the Feldkirch native.
"I hear through really good sources that Vancouver really likes Marco (Rossi) and is very interested in Marco." Russo said.

Given that Rossi is a young, now-established centerman in the National Hockey League and has shown signs that he can produce in a top-six role, many would assume the return in a trade would be quite high, understandably, but it looks like it's the exact opposite.
Cam Robinson, the Director of Film Scouting for Elite Prospects, believes the Minnesota Wild will trade Marco Rossi for futures (draft picks, prospects) and then flip those assets to another team in order to land someone who can help them right now.
"Don't expect a blockbuster return, instead, watch for the Wild to do a two-part deal: move Rossi for futures, then flip those or other assets for a centre they believe can fit their demands more actively." Robinson said.

If that is the type of return the Minnesota Wild would prefer, the Vancouver Canucks definitely have the assets to make a trade happen, highlighted by their 2025 first round pick (15th overall), which many expect is in play leading up to the start of the NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 27th.
