NHL Insider Reveals New Twist in Vancouver Canucks' Trade Plans for Elias Pettersson

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has given a pretty big update regarding the Vancouver Canucks and the potential for an Elias Pettersson trade at some point this month.
Teams around the National Hockey League - aside from Edmonton and Florida at this point - are getting ready for the Entry Draft and the start of free agency and as is the case every year, the month of June is quite busy with numerous trade taking place.
While there hasn't been any just yet, likely because of the Stanley Cup Final getting underway tomorrow and the league not wanting to draw attention away from that, but it won't stop rumors from flying, including about Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks.

Over the weekend, it was revealed by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period that the Vancouver Canucks were going to be entertaining trade offers on Elias Pettersson this month before his no-movement clause kicks in on Tuesday, July 1st.

While a trade is certainly still possible before Canada Day, it's far from a guarantee, as Elliotte Friedman revealed while a guest on Sportsnet 590 radio that Patrik Allvin knows what the offers are for Elias Pettersson, but they would rather solve the problem of his struggles on their own rather than dealing him.

The 2024-25 season was a tough one for Elias Pettersson, there's no way to sugarcoat it as he struggled to produce offensively, had a feud with former teammate J.T. Miller and even saw his name pop up in trade rumors throughout the early part of 2025, with teams like the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets linked to him.
We'll have to wait and see where things go on this front over the next few weeks, but if Patrik Allvin doesn't receive any offers that blow him out of the water before July 1st, then expect Elias Pettersson to be in the Vancouver Canucks' lineup when the puck drops in October.
