An NHL insider has given a pretty big update on Elias Pettersson's future in Vancouver, saying that the team will be entertaining calls on him before Canada Day.
The 2024-25 season is one that Elias Pettersson would like to put in the past after dealing with an injury that ended his year early, a feud with former teammate J.T. Miller, along with offensive struggles, resulting in him finishing the campaign with just 45 points.
Many fans have been wondering what the future held for Elias Pettersson in Vancouver, with Patrik Allvin saying at the end of the season that he'd be stupid not to keep his options open, hinting at the possibility that he'd be willing to move the Swedish forward if the right offer came along.
Insider says Vancouver Canucks will entertain offers on Elias Pettersson
In an article on The Fourth Period on Friday, NHL insider David Pagnotta gave an update on the availability of Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson heading into the summer.
According to Pagnotta, the Vancouver Canucks are willing to listen to offers from teams regarding Elias Pettersson leading up to July 1st, which is when the forward's full no-movement clause comes into effect.
Pagnotta also shared that the Vancouver Canucks' price tag, which is quite high, for Elias Pettersson hasn't changed and he wondered if the Buffalo Sabres would re-enter the mix for the 26-year-old as they showed interest in him back in January.
"The 26-year-old centre will see his no-movement clause kick-in July 1 and the belief across the NHL is the Canucks will continue to entertain trade calls. It does not sound like the price tag has changed much, if at all, so a team will have to pay up to pry him out of B.C. Do the Sabres take another swing? They surely won't be the lone team to try." Pagnotta said.
Pettersson, a native of Sundsvall, Sweden, has seven years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $11.6 million and, as mentioned, a no-movement clause that comes into effect on Canada Day.
Even with the National Hockey League's salary cap expected to rise in a big way in the years ahead, potentially around $113.5 million in 2027-28, it won't be easy for many teams to acquire Elias Pettersson right now, but that won't stop General Managers to come calling and inquiring about what it'll cost to land the Swedish star.
Before the NHL's trade deadline in March, several teams were interested in Elias Pettersson including the aforementioned Buffalo Sabres, the Carolina Hurricanes and even the Columbus Blue Jackets.
We'll have to wait and see where things go in the coming weeks, but it would likely take a massive haul for Patrik Allvin to even consider moving on from Elias Pettersson this summer.
