Thursday night marked the opening of the playoffs in the Ontario Hockey League and for Vancouver Canucks prospect Josh Bloom, he took charge in his game.
Bloom's team, the Saginaw Spirit, finished second in the Western Conference standings, behind only the London Knights, and are taking on the seventh seed Owen Sound Attack in the first round. Last night, Josh Bloom scored twice and was named first star of the game as Saginaw defeated Owen Sound by a score of 6-4 to take a 1-0 series lead.
After the game, the Ontario Hockey League highlighted Josh Bloom, naming him Performer of the Night for his strong play in the win over Owen Sound.

Bloom, 20, has had a rollercoaster of a year to say the least. At the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign, he was assigned to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks and everyone thought his junior career was over. After a couple of months in Abbotsford, he was sent down to the ECHL to play for Kalamazoo. Following a few weeks in Kalamazoo, the Canucks organization and Bloom's camp decided it was best for his development to return him to the Ontario Hockey League.
Since his return to the OHL's Saginaw Spirit, Bloom has been lights out and was above a point-per-game during the regular season. In 34 games during the regular season, Bloom put up 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists), 15 penalty minutes and was a plus-18.
With the OHL's Playoffs now in full swing, which Canucks prospect do you think has the best chance at winning the championship with his team - Josh Bloom (Saginaw),
Vilmer Alriksson (Guelph) or
Kirill Kudryavtsev (Soo)? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
