An insider has given a significant update this week regarding an Original Six team's pursuit of Vancouver Canucks unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser.
We're officially one week away from the opening of the National Hockey League's free agency window, with Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser
expected to hit the market and won't be returning to the team next season.
Losing Brock Boeser will leave a big hole in the Vancouver Canucks' forward group, which Patrik Allvin will be working to fill in the weeks ahead, and when it comes to where the 28-year-old may end up, he certainly won't have a shortage of options.
In recent weeks, Boeser has been linked to numerous teams,
including his hometown Minnesota Wild, among others, but it appears that an Original Six team is wanting to be the most aggressive in hopes of landing the American forward next week.
Insider gives big update regarding Original Six team's pursuit of Brock Boeser
In an article for RG Media on Monday, NHL reporter Jimmy Murphy gave a big update regarding the Boston Bruins' interest in landing pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser.
According to Murphy, the Boston Bruins are planning to make a "significant push" for Brock Boeser on Canada Day.
Along with the Boston Bruins, Murphy lists the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and Utah Mammoth as teams that are expected to have interest in the Burnsville, Minnesota native.
"RG has learned that, in addition to the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Utah Mammoth, Detroit Red Wings, and Montreal Canadiens, the Boston Bruins are planning a significant push to sign the pending unrestricted free agent, who scored 25 goals and added 25 assists for the Canucks this past season." Murphy said.
Boeser is coming off back-to-back 25+ goal campaigns, however he saw a drop in production this year, going from 73 points in the 2023-24 season to 50 points.
Despite the drop in production this season, Boeser is undoubtedly one of the top free agents available and there's no question he could end up getting a longer term contract, in the six or seven year range, with a cap hit above $8 million US.
It's going to be interesting to see where Brock Boeser ends up on July 1st, but it's safe to say the Vancouver Canucks wouldn't mind seeing him land with an Eastern Conference team, that way they only have to face him twice a year.
