Promising Trade Proposal Has the Vancouver Canucks Acquiring Former Third Overall Pick From the Ducks

A trade proposal shared recently would see the Vancouver Canucks land some much needed depth down the middle with a former third overall pick.
The Vancouver Canucks' search for a second line center continues to drag on as we enter the last week of July and while the team is hoping
hoping to make a deal before training camp, the market seems to have dried up a bit at the moment.
Vancouver has had their eye on a number of centermen since their 2024-25 campaign came to a close back in April, but there is one name that has popped up a lot more recently and that's
Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks.
Earlier this week,
Vancouver's interest in Mason McTavish was officially revealed by Patrick Johnston of
The Province, although he's unsure if the Canucks have the pieces to get a deal over the finish line.
"Hence their continued interest in Roslovic, as well as their interest in Mason McTavish, the Anaheim Ducks' restricted free agent. Of course adding McTavish, the third-overall pick in the 2021 draft, will be very hard: he's a highly-regarded player with huge upside and will cost a big price in trade, perhaps more than the Canucks can afford." Johnston said.
New trade proposal sees Vancouver Canucks land former third overall pick
In a perfect world for the Anaheim Ducks, they would've had Mason McTavish locked up to a long-term contract by now, but it looks like the two sides aren't too close when it comes to salary,
Ben Kuzma shared recently.
"AFP Analytics has McTavish receiving a six-year, $40.6-million US deal that would carry a $6.67 million in annual average value. Of course, his camp is pushing for more, somewhere between $7 million to $8 million, and hence the impasse."
While a Mason McTavish trade feels hard to imagine at the moment, regardless if it's with Vancouver or any other NHL club, a new proposal has emerged that would see the Canucks land the 22-year-old.
In a post on social media this week, @PlayNowSports suggests the Vancouver Canucks giving up top defensive prospect
Tom Willander, forward
Nils Hoglander, along with an unprotected 2026 first round pick for McTavish.
"#Canucks fans, what would you be willing to give up for Mason McTavish?
Would a package like Tom Willander, Nils Hoglander and a 2026 unprotected 1st rounder get it done? 🧐 #FlyTogether" they said.
As has been mentioned, it won't be cheap to acquire Mason McTavish and the Anaheim Ducks will want a haul for the young centerman, however it's difficult to see Patrik Allvin parting ways with both Tom Willander and an unprotected first rounder in what's expected to be a deep 2026 draft, headlined by Gavin McKenna.
We'll have to wait and see in the coming weeks what happens on the Mason McTavish front in Anaheim, but if he's still unsigned by the time training camp rolls around, it wouldn't be a shock if the Ducks were to get more serious about trading him.
