Captain Quinn Hughes has responded to a report from Elliotte Friedman that the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils have talked trade recently involving him.
The Vancouver Canucks have been testing the market for a number of players over the last few weeks and while he hasn't been made available by the club just yet, some teams are already showing interest in captain Quinn Hughes.
Following months of rumors linking the two sides, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported on the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada that the New Jersey Devils have called the Vancouver Canucks to talk about Quinn Hughes, but added that nothing is imminent on that front and he isn't sure if they're very far along in talks.
"Once Vancouver announced they were open for business, sent that email around to the league, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the New Jersey Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes and I stress, I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don't even know that they're anywhere far along. But I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going." Friedman said.

Following Saturday night's win over the Minnesota Wild, where he led his team in ice time at 24:49, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes was asked by reporters about Elliotte Friedman's report regarding the New Jersey Devils' talks with General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Hughes said that he wasn't a part of those discussions between the Canucks and Devils, but added that he understands that things like this can happen as it's part of the business.
"I mean, no, I'm doing what I can. I was on the ice so it wasn't like, if there was a call, me, Jim and Fitzy hopped on the call, you know? I wasn't a part of that, but obviously I'm aware things like that can happen, for sure." Hughes said.
Ever since Jim Rutherford made comments in April about Quinn Hughes wanting to play with his brothers Jack and Luke at some point in his career, rumors have been swirling linking the Canucks captain to the New Jersey Devils and it seems inevitable, whether it's via trade or as a free agent in the summer of 2027, that he'll land in The Garden State.
If it happens to be through trade, the Vancouver Canucks are going to have some interesting pieces they could target from the New Jersey Devils, with names like Simon Nemec and Dawson Mercer being thrown around recently.
