With the free agent market starting to dwindle down, a former first round pick could be Patrik Allvin's solution to the Vancouver Canucks' lack of depth down the middle.

We're nearly a week into the National Hockey League's free agency period and understandably, there aren't many quality names left on the open market.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin wasn't able to add a centerman for his NHL roster last week and with the team losing Pius Suter, who signed a two-year contract with the St. Louis Blues, he's going to have to get a bit creative if he wants to bring in some help down the middle.

Former first round pick emerges as possible free agent target for Vancouver Canucks

In a recent article on Canucks Army, David Quadrelli examined some potential options that Vancouver could take a look at from a depth perspective on the free agent market.
One name that Quadrelli suggests is centerman Jack Roslovic, who had a pretty good year with the Carolina Hurricanes, tying a career-high in goals and honestly, it's a little surprising to still see him available on the free agent market.
"When it comes to remaining free agents that might be a fit for the Canucks, Roslovic might be the only name on this list who fits that billing." Quadrelli said.

He went on to add, "The Canucks have been rumoured to be interested in Roslovic in the past, so this might be one to keep an eye on."

Roslovic, a native of Columbus, Ohio, signed a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent with the Carolina Hurricanes last summer, who became the fourth team of his NHL career thus far.
The 28-year-old ended up being a much better fit with the Hurricanes than many would've expected as he finished third on the team in goals with 22, ahead of players such as Andrei Svechnikov and Jackson Blake, sixth in points with 39.
As things stand right now on July 6th, the Vancouver Canucks will go into the 2025-26 season with Elias Pettersson and Filip Chytil as their first and second line centermen, respectively and even if they were to land Jack Roslovic, that still very well could be the case, although him and the aforementioned Chytil could swap back and forth between 2C and 3C.
Adding any player right now won't be easy for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks as according to PuckPedia, the team has $795,000 US remaining in cap space and still need to sign defenseman Jett Woo and goaltender Nikita Tolopilo, both of whom decided not to elect arbitration before Saturday's 2 pm PT deadline.
One way the Vancouver Canucks could add Jack Roslovic to the fold is by moving money out in a trade, with reports suggesting that forward Dakota Joshua, who has a $3.25 million cap hit and modified no-trade clause, could be on the trade block.
We'll have to wait and see if Patrik Allvin does anything over the coming weeks to address the team's center situation or if they want to enter the season with Elias Pettersson & Filip Chytil as 1C and 2C, and then perhaps acquire some help mid-season.
