Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin believes forward Elias Pettersson will bounce back in the 2025-26 season after a tough, drama-filled year in 2024-25.
Overall, the 2024-25 campaign was a difficult one for the Vancouver Canucks for a multitude of different reasons including the drama the team dealt with due to
a reported feud between Elias Pettersson and
J.T. Miller, which led to the latter being dealt to the New York Rangers.
On top of that reported feud, Elias Pettersson struggled to produce offensively for the Canucks, finishing the year with just 45 points in 64 games, the second-lowest total of his career in the National Hockey League.
At the end of the season,
reports indicated that the Vancouver Canucks were taking calls on the Swedish forward, but ultimately
decided not to move him before his no-movement clause went into effect on July 1st, signalling that the team believes he will turn things around.
Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin believes Elias Pettersson will bounce back
During an appearance on the 100% Canucks Podcast with former NHLer Landon Ferraro and insider John Shannon, General Manager Patrik Allvin opened up on the team's 2024-25 season and where he feels the team is heading next year after the moves he made over the last couple of weeks.
When the topic of Elias Pettersson came up, Patrik Allvin was full of praise for his fellow countryman, saying that if the 26-year-old is able to get back to the top of his game, which they believe he will, then he'll bring the rest of the team with him, meaning that their respective performances would elevate and as a whole, the Canucks could be competing for a top-three spot in the Pacific Division.
"There is very few players in the league they're capable of doing what Petey can do... If we get Petey back to to the level what he's capable of doing, I think that that he will drag the rest of the group with him there." Allvin said.
The Vancouver Canucks committed a lot of term and money to Elias Pettersson, which showed to him that they believe he's a big piece of the team and someone they feel can help them bring a Stanley Cup to British Columbia in the years ahead.
If Elias Pettersson is able to return to his old form and register anywhere from 90 to 100+ points next season, the Vancouver Canucks will have a real good chance of making it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it won't just be up to him as they'll need others to bounce back as well such as
Thatcher Demko and even
Brock Boeser, who is capable of being a 30-35 goal player on a yearly basis.
