Rick Tocchet's agent discusses contract offer, negotiations with Vancouver Canucks
Steve Mountain, the agent for former Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, was a guest on Donnie & Dhali on Wednesday where he talked about the offer his client received from the team and the negotiations on trying to get a new contract signed.
Mountain praised the Vancouver Canucks for stepping up and making Rick Tocchet's decision hard based on the contract that he was offered.
"They stepped up, made the decision hard, you can not say the Canucks did not extend themselves." Mountain said.
Mountain then went on to explain how difficult of a decision it was for Rick Tocchet to leave the Vancouver Canucks organization.
"That's a really good question. I don't think a decision like this for anyone would be an easy decision. Rick had a lot of success in Vancouver and he's been able to work with and make a lot of great friends and I think when you're thinking about really moving away from something, I think those relationships kind of make you really think twice as hard about what's the right decision." Mountain said.
He added, "He took a good amount of time. One thing about Rick is he's very thoughtful and I think he analyzed it to the point...I think in the end, he just felt this was the natural time and the natural break in the way the deal works. With the term coming to an end, this was the natural time, if he was going to make a break this was the time to do it."

Rick Tocchet will have plenty of options for his next coaching gig in the National Hockey League and with Jim Rutherford saying he wants to return to the Eastern United States for family reasons, a few teams that could enter the mix for his services are the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
