The Vancouver Canucks have a big decision to make with the 15th overall pick on Friday evening and could use it to select a scoring winger from the WHL.
In just four days, the National Hockey League's Entry Draft will begin in Los Angeles, California and there's been plenty of intrigue on how things will play out after the New York Islanders select first overall.
Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks
will be selecting 15th overall for the second time in the last four drafts and if the team opts to hold onto the pick, there are plenty of interesting options for the GM to consider taking.
Scoring winger emerges as draft target for the Vancouver Canucks
In an article on Vancouver is Awesome recently, Daniel Wagner examined some players the Vancouver Canucks could target with their 15th overall pick on Friday night, including some defenseman and forwards, depending on what the team thinks they need to add to their system.
Carter Bear of the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips was one of the players mentioned by Wagner and could actually be a really good fit for the Vancouver Canucks' prospect pool and their lineup in the NHL in the years to come.
"Carter Bear is a fierce competitor, whose motor is unmatched in this draft class. His tenacity is his calling card but he's not just a mindless grinder. He marries that tenacity to a diverse skill set, with the vision to be a playmaker." Wagner said.
He added, Bear's motor and hockey IQ also translate to the defensive end of the ice, making him one of the better two-way forwards in the draft, willing to do whatever it takes at both ends of the ice to win games."
Bear, a native of West St. Paul, Manitoba, suited up for 56 contests for the Everett Silvertips this season and produced at nearly a point-and-a-half pace per game, which is quite impressive given that WHL isn't always known for pumping out offensive talent, but that's changed in recent years.
In 56 games for the Silvertips, Bear registered 82 points (40 goals, 42 assists), along with 77 penalty minutes and was a plus-33.
If Patrik Allvin decides to hold onto the 15th overall pick and doesn't end up trading it
as some believe could happen, Carter Bear should be at the top of their list, if the 18-year-old is still available when the Canucks are on the clock.
