Patrik Allvin had lots of work, and still has a lot to do as he heads into the Amateur Draft and then free agency on July 1st.

The Canucks still have needs to fill out their blue line, even after they re-signed Filip Hronek and Mark Friedman. Both the Canucks and Nikita Zadorov share the will to renew their partnership for a longer term, but nothing has come to conclusion yet and the reports have been mitigated thus far.

On Sekeres and Price earlier, the true cost of re-signing Nikita Zadorov was identified and it's now clear that it goes way beyond the simple amount of money they want to give him. Patrik Allvin had four main objectives he meant to achieve during the off season, re-sign Filip Hronek, trade Ilya Mikheyev to re-sign Nikita Zadorov and go after top six high-end winger, hopefully Jake Guentzel.

Then, it was revealed that to take on Ilya Mikheyev and his contract, teams would be asking for a 2nd round pick at the very least:

Trade a 2nd-round pick to get out from Ilya Mikheyev's contract so the #Canucks can re-sign Nikita Zadorov? 🧐

@RobTheHockeyGuy with @mattsekeres & @justBlakePrice:

"The trouble with that is they've just given away so many draft picks."

Given the fact that Allvin has already traded away big parts of the Canucks' picks, re-signing the big Z goes way beyond just giving him an amount of money. It goes to the point where the Canucks will have to sacrifice what could be a piece of their future.
