Vancouver Canucks Announce Roster Move Involving Goaltending Prospect Ty Young
The Vancouver Canucks organization has seen a goaltending shuffle in recent days and that'll continue on Friday following an announcement from their AHL affiliate.
Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've assigned Arturs Silovs to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
Sending Arturs Silovs down to the American Hockey League was a signal that Thatcher Demko is ready to return to the Canucks following a week-long absence due to back spasms according to Rick Tocchet and on Friday, it was revealed that the star netminder is indeed back.
"Both Elias Pettersson and Thatcher Demko are expected to suit up when the Canucks play the Hurricanes tonight, per @FarhanLaljiTSN." TSN said. Due to the reassignment of Arturs Silovs, it left the Abbotsford Canucks with three goaltenders on their roster, but it appears the club has solved that issue this afternoon.
Vancouver Canucks assign Ty Young to Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL)
In a social media post, the Abbotsford Canucks announced that Vancouver has decided to assign goaltending prospect Ty Young to the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings.
"The following transaction has occurred:
- Vancouver (NHL) re-assigns G Ty Young from Abbotsford to Kalamazoo (ECHL)" the Abbotsford Canucks said.
Young, 21, was drafted in the fifth round by the Vancouver Canucks back in 2022 and after parts of four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars, he made the jump to professional hockey for the 2024-25 campaign.
In seven games for Kalamazoo this season, the Coaldale, Alberta native has a record of 4-3-0 along with a 2.35 goals against average and a 9.29 save percentage.
Young and the Kalamazoo Wings will be back in action tonight as they take on the Iowa Heartlanders, ECHL affiliate for the Minnesota Wild.
