The Vancouver Canucks' biggest rival have completed a blockbuster trade on Friday morning a little over a week before the NHL's holiday roster freeze goes into effect.

Next Saturday marks the first day of the National Hockey league's holiday roster freeze, which runs until December 28th, and trade rumors are starting to pick up, including for the Vancouver Canucks, with multiple teams already calling Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford to inquire about captain Quinn Hughes.
While it's been a busy period for the Vancouver Canucks, especially after the club decided to make their pending unrestricted free agents available on the trade market, looking East, it appears the team's biggest rival, the Edmonton Oilers, have finally filled a pressing need they've had for quite some time.

Despite making it to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers have struggled in the goaltending department as Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard both registered save percentages below .900 and with the club trying to win while Connor McDavid is still in town, a change was needed.
On Friday morning, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they've acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry and former first rounder Sam Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak and a second round pick in the 2029 NHL Entry Draft.
"The Edmonton Oilers have acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Stuart Skinner, defenceman Brett Kulak and a second-round draft selection in 2029." the club said in a press release.

Jarry, 30, has appeared in 14 games this season for the Penguins where he has a 9-3-1 record along with a 2.66 goals against average, a .909 save percentage and one shutout.
Meanwhile for Stuart Skinner, who was probably in need of a fresh start elsewhere after spending parts of six seasons in his hometown of Edmonton, he's sporting an 11-8-4 record, a 2.83 goals against average, an .891 save percentage and two shutouts in 23 games with the Oilers.
It's still a bit early to say who wins this trade between Edmonton and Pittsburgh, with both clubs moving on from players that needed a change of scenery, it's safe to say that Tristan Jarry is quite happy with the deal as it could increase his chances of making Canada's Olympic team, if he performs well behind a strong Oilers squad.
