Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is taking on a new, expanded role for his club in the first season of a seven-year contract he signed back in early July.

After almost leaving the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent earlier this summer, Patrik Allvin and Brock Boeser's camp were able to work out a long-term deal to keep him around until the conclusion of the 2032-33 season.
Brock Boeser admitted during the summer that he thought he was headed elsewhere in free agency, but was happy once Patrik Allvin called him at the last minute and that they were able to hammer out a new contract.
"In my head, I think I was fully set on going somewhere else. And so I had kind of a list of teams in my head that I thought maybe would be good fits and and then I just still was kind of uneasy about everything. And then they called, and, you know, at the end of the day, I think my heart was still at Vancouver. I have so much faith in our team and the pieces that we have. And, you know, I think Adam Foote too. I think he's going to be a great head coach. So I think everything just lined up well. And I'm just super stoked to be back." Boeser said.

During a recent interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, Brock Boeser opened up about the opportunity to be on the Vancouver Canucks' penalty kill this season, something he is very excited about.
"It gives me confidence. I haven't really gotten a chance to kill penalties since I've been in the league I'm excited for the opportunity, and hopefully I can make the most of it." Boeser said.

Head Coach Adam Foote said last month that Burnsville, Minnesota native has the right skill set to play on the penalty kill for the club.
I think he's so smart that he can kill. Our kill was very detailed. Up ice, we knew when to strike, we knew when to back off and in zone, and [Boeser] gets it." Foote said.

It's going to be interesting to see how Brock Boeser handles this role, on top of his responsibilities on Vancouver's top line and first power play unit, where they expect him to lead the charge and put the puck in the back of the net like he did two seasons ago, when he finished with his first 40-goal campaign.

Do you think being on the penalty kill & the defensive role that comes with that will take Brock Boeser's focus away from scoring?
