Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland was named to his team's leadership group just days before the start of the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Herning, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden.

With the Vancouver Canucks season over, players on their roster have the opportunity to represent their respective nations at the IIHF World Championship, which is held every May in Europe.
Filip Hronek (Czechia), Marcus Pettersson (Sweden) as well as Conor Garland and Drew O'Connor, who were named to the United States' roster a little over two weeks ago, will represent the Vancouver Canucks at the tournament, which gets underway on Friday.

Conor Garland named to Team USA's leadership group for IIHF World Championship

On Sunday, just before they took to the ice for their pre-tournament game against Germany, USA Hockey announced their leadership group for the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
For the second time in his career, Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland is apart of that leadership group for the United States as he's been named an alternate captain for the tournament.
Joining Conor Garland on the United States' leadership group is Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson and Nashville Predators defenseman Brady Skjei, who will also wear an 'A', while Utah Hockey Club forward Clayton Keller has been named the team's captain.
"Lead the way, boys!" USA Hockey said on X.

"Clayton Keller, who serves as captain of the NHL's Utah Hockey Club, has been named captain of the U.S Men's National Team for the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship. Brady Skjei, Tage Thompson and Conor Garland were named alternate captains."
The 2025 IIHF World Championship will mark Conor Garland's third appearance at the tournament following 2021, where he won a bronze medal and 2023, where as mentioned, he wore an 'A' on his sweater.
In 20 games for the United States at the World Championship, the Scituate, Massachusetts native has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists), six penalty minutes and is a plus-ten.
Garland and the United States will begin their quest for the gold medal at the IIHF World Championship on Friday as they take on the co-hosts, Denmark, at 11:20 am PT on TSN.
