A new eye-opening report on former controversial Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller indicates that it may be a mistake to name him the next captain of the New York Rangers.

J.T. Miller may be a fan favorite forward for the New York Rangers fan base after just half a season in a blue shirt, but there was a time with the Vancouver Canucks that his actions turned him into an extremely polarizing figure.
With Jacob Trouba now a member of the Anaheim Ducks, the Blue Shirts are without a leader dawning the "C", it is believed that J.T. Miller will be the next in line to be named captain.
J.T. Miller should be appointed #NYR captain at the start of training camp:

«The captain's sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization's ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture. The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt." - Larry Brooks

Why Former Vancouver Canucks J.T. forward should not be named the next captain of the New York Rangers

Although it is true that for a long-time Miller was the heartbeat and soul of the Canucks, qualities that are exactly what teams need in a leader, but his past drama with Elias Pettersson and other issues with coaches exposes that he is the wrong choice.
Last season, the Rangers were lacking a tough, hard-nosed mentality, which Miller helped provide upon his arrival to The Big Apple midseason.

Miller is the kind of player and person who's known for his aggressive mindset and competitive mentality.

As captain, Miller won't be afraid to push his teammates in order to get the best out of each and every one of them. -

When general manager Chris Drury traded for Miller, it was fully expected that the superstar was going to carry that same aggressiveness and tenacity to lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but he did nothing of the sort.
Miller also has a strong and well documented history to cause issues in the locker room, while also be praised for his competitiveness, his visible actions that cut both ways are the last thing the Rangers need.
In the past, the organization has had some rocky history when choosing their leader, most recently when Trouba was named captain over veterans Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, which sparked a strong debate within the New York fans base.
By making Miller captain over them once again, along with his issues in Vancouver, it would be best that the Rangers choose someone else, and leave the chances of more distraction during the season behind.
