The Vancouver Canucks are taking some big steps forward to leave last season's struggles - which included missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs - behind them.

There's no doubt if you were to ask anyone around the National Hockey League to name their three most disappointing teams from the 2024-25 season, the majority of them would mention the Vancouver Canucks.
It was a year filled with filled with drama due to a feud between Elias Pettersson & J.T. Miller, inconsistent play and injuries, all of which resulted in the club missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
As training camp wraps up in Penticton on Sunday, the Vancouver Canucks aren't dwelling too much on the past and are full of excitement for what could be big season for the organization.

Vancouver Canucks turning the page after last season's struggles

To move forward from last season's struggles, the Canucks have to acknowledge what went wrong in the first place, take ownership of their subpar play without sweeping things under the rug.
Jeff Paterson of The Province believes that some players including Elias Pettersson and Thatcher Demko, have done a solid job of that during the first few days of training camp.
"Most guys talk about wanting to turn the page, but I thought we heard some honesty yesterday. First time we've heard from Thatcher Demko since last season and he was one of the guys that sort of pushed back last year that things were a problem in that locker room. But yesterday copped to it and basically said that there were things that we simply couldn't overcome. Elias Pettersson talked about some of that a little bit yesterday as well." Paterson said,

He added, "So as much as they want to turn the page, it's not as simple as sweeping last year under the rug. I mean they have to take some learnings from it and I've said with you guys before, like I do think this team is leaning into good vibes and we'll see how good vibes can take them. But we know last year the vibes were not right."
Of course, actions are louder than words and we'll have to wait and see if the Vancouver Canucks are truly able to turn it around this season and make it back to the playoffs.
However, given that everyone says they're feeling great heading into the new year, with those that were injured now back at 100% health, it's certainly appears that the 2025-26 campaign has the potential to be a lot different than last season.
