Vancouver Canucks' Future Star Braeden Cootes Just Did What No Rookie Has Done in 35 Years

Vancouver Canucks rookie and future star forward Braeden Cootes is about to accomplish a feat no 18 year old has accomplished in 35 years.
With the Vancouver Canucks' regular season commencing in less than 24 hours, GM Patrik Allvin has made all the final cuts and necessary roster moves in order to finalized which players will be taking the ice on October 7th.
And it appears the youngster Cootes will be apart of that select group
Braeden Cootes breaks 35 year Vancouver Canucks rookie record
After being drafted 15th overall by the Canucks in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Braeden Cootes was not expected to impress management this early in his career.
But, with the holes in the lineup, it could not have come at a better time. as the teams latest roster decision have confirmed that the 18 year old future star will be starting in the NHL, a feat that has not been done in 35 years.
Cootes, who is going to play in Thursday's season opener, per John Shannon, will become just the eighth 18-year-old to ever play for the Canucks, and the first since Petr Nedved in 1990.

J.J. Daigneault (1984-85)
Cam Neely (1983-84)

Only Cam Neely (June 6) and Trevor Linden (April 11) were further away from their 19th birthdays than Cootes (Feb. 9) when they made their NHL debuts

Cootes may be young, but in the short time with the Canucks, he has done more to impress them and showcase that he belongs nowhere else but the NHL.
