Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is reportedly unlikely to be traded by the organization over the summer as they prefer to keep him around under newly appointed Head Coach Adam Foote.

After a strong finish to the 2024-25 season, which unfortunately ended early due to an injury, many have been curious what the Vancouver Canucks' plans are for forward Elias Pettersson this summer.
Last month, comments from General Manager Patrik Allvin regarding keeping his options open raised some eyebrows and reignited trade rumors surrounding Elias Pettersson before his no-movement clause kicks in on Tuesday, July 1st.

Vancouver Canucks reportedly unlikely to trade Elias Pettersson this summer

On Thursday, one day after announcing the news, the Vancouver Canucks officially introduced Adam Foote as their 22nd Head Coach in franchise history.
During his press conference, Adam Foote touched on a number of topics including the play of Elias Pettersson last season and what the future holds for him.
According to Adam Kierszenblat of The Hockey News, it doesn't seem like the Vancouver Canucks intend on trading Elias Pettersson this summer, based on what Adam Foote had to say on Thursday, along with members of the organization believing that the Swedish forward wants to bounce back in 2025-26.
"Based on Foote's answer today, it sounds like the #Canucks plan to keep center Elias Pettersson rather than trade him. Also, it is clear that Pettersson cares and wants to bounce back as multiple members of the organization have now mentioned it." Kierszenblat said.
While it's still possible a trade gets done, if a team swoops in with an offer that Patrik Allvin can't refuse, it's almost a guarantee that Elias Pettersson will be on the Vancouver Canucks roster when the puck drops for opening night on the 2025-26 campaign in October.
It would have been quite hard for Patrik Allvin to get a move done with Elias Pettersson this summer for a number of reasons, one of which, as mentioned, is that his no-movement clause kicks in on Canada Day and after that, the 26-year-old would hold full control over his future.
The other big reason, no pun intended, is his large cap hit of $11.6 million for the next seven seasons and even with the salary cap expected to go up substantially in the coming years, not many teams are able to add that sort of money right now.
Pettersson, a native of Sundsvall, Sweden registered 45 points (15 goals, 30 assists) in 64 games during the 2024-25 campaign, with ten of those points coming in his final 11 games of the year before suffering a season-ending injury on March 22nd against the New York Rangers.
