Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood may reportedly become a hot commodity on the market ahead of the NHL's trade deadline in early March.

It's very too early to look ahead to the National Hockey League's trade deadline, which is set for Friday, March 6th and while the Vancouver Canucks are focused on making it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and perhaps adding a big piece to their roster, General Manager Patrik Allvin is going to have a big decision to make regarding the team's pending unrestricted free agents.
If the Canucks continue their current pace over the next few months, they might head into the deadline as centers and among those that could be available are pending UFAs Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, Derek Forbort and even Kiefer Sherwood, who is among the top goal scorers in the NHL this season with nine in 13 games.

Ideally, the Vancouver Canucks would like to keep Kiefer Sherwood around beyond the 2025-26 season and even held preliminary discussions with him about an extension this summer, but now, it appears that the team isn't so sure as it could end up costing them a lot more than they'd like to pay.
"There's a little bit of hesitancy; he keeps this up he's probably in the $4m maybe $5m range depending on term, I think the Canucks are, or were anyway...weary...allocating those types of cap dollars" David Pagnotta said recently.

In a recent article for Puck Prose, Rhys Jones believes that teams in the mix for a playoff spot this season, even those who are top contenders, could be keeping a close eye on Kiefer Sherwood, if he were to be made available ahead of March 6th.
"A big, physical guy who can score is what you need in the playoffs, and although he is the guy right now, teams will remember this moment, and he should be on the radar of every serious team in need of a workhorse up top." Jones said.

Sherwood's low salary of $1.5 million US would be easy for most contending teams to add to their cap, with the team's biggest rival, the Edmonton Oilers, being one of the teams that is reportedly interested in the Columbus, Ohio native.
"According to Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now this week, the Oilers are keeping an eye on Kiefer Sherwood on the Canucks.

He scored 2 goals against them on the weekend and he has 3 goals tonight." Puckin' Around Podcast said on X last week.

We'll have to wait and see what the next few months have in store, but even if Kiefer Sherwood's goal scoring pace drops off a bit, which is expected, and is around the 20-25 goal mark around early March, there's no question that Patrik Allvin could get a haul for him at the deadline.
