Vancouver Canucks' New Head Coach Adam Foote Can't Stay Silent About Daniel and Henrik Sedin
Three weeks ago, the Vancouver Canucks announced
the promotion of Adam Foote to Head Coach following Rick Tocchet's departure from the organization at the end of April.
There's been plenty of speculation since mid-May on who would be joining Adam Foote's staff as Assistant Coaches and on Thursday,
the Canucks finalized deals with Kevin Dean, Brett McLean and Scott Young.
Vancouver Canucks HC Adam Foote applauds work done by Henrik & Daniel Sedin
While some Vancouver Canucks fans were hoping that Henrik and Daniel Sedin would take on a bigger role next season and perhaps join Adam Foote's staff as assistants, the twins are set to stick with their Player Development positions, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
"Besides the additions of Dean, McLean and Young, Head Coach Adam Foote is pleased to have Marko Torenius, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Jason Krog return to the Canucks next season to resume their current roles." the Canucks
said.
After the announcement of his new coaching staff and that the team was retaining the names mentioned above, Adam Foote was full of praise for the work that Henrik and Daniel Sedin have done so far.
Foote believes the Sedin twins are great people for the organization and thinks that next season, they could help out even more with players on the NHL roster, possibly even taking a few guys onto the ice before practice begins to work on certain situations, such as 3-on-3 overtime, etc.
"Their development role, but they're guys that are there for you whatever you want them to do... I see them, and we have talking about more before practice, like maybe taking 3 or 4 guys out, about 3-on-3 plays offensively." Foote said according to The Hockey News' Adam Kierszenblat.
The Sedin twins, who spent their entire 17 year playing careers with the Vancouver Canucks, have been with the organization in a coaching capacity for the past three seasons and one year before that, served as Special Assistant to the General Manager.
The experience Henrik and Daniel Sedin have is extremely valuable to the Vancouver Canucks and their roster as they can provide advice to players who might be going through a slump and are struggling to produce and are able to help those players improve in certain areas of their game.
It's not surprising to see that the Sedins opted against taking on Assistant Coaching roles, but it's great news for the organization, players and fans that they are sticking around as Development Coaches
