Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander has made a significant financial contribution to help open an arena in his hometown overseas in Sweden.

As was the case for the majority of players on the Vancouver Canucks roster, the 2024-25 campaign was a difficult one for forward Nils Hoglander as he saw his goal total go from a career-high of 24 to just eight this past year.
Hoglander knew that this past season wasn't good enough and he needed to be a better player for the club starting this fall, with the Swedish forward getting back on the ice not long after Vancouver's 2024-25 campaign came to a close, which was a good sign that he is ready to turn things around.
With roughly five weeks to go until training camp opens, Hoglander has played a big role in helping an arena open in his hometown in Sweden ahead of schedule.

Hoglander returned to his hometown of Mala, Sweden this summer, which is about an hour-and-a-half drive away from the city of Skelleftea, and of course, wanted to have the opportunity to train and prepare for the upcoming season.
Mala IF, the hockey club that the Canucks forward played for in his youth, and the municipality of Mala were opening up a new arena this year, giving kids in the area a place to lace up their skates and potentially become the next Nils Hoglander.
According to Swedish media outlet SVT.se, Nils Hoglander made a big financial contribution to help open the new arena in Mala a month earlier than expected.
An agreement between Mala IF, the municipality of Mala and Nils Hoglander sees the Vancouver Canucks forward have access to the arena in the morning to skate and train, and once he's finished up each day, it then opens up to the general public.
Note: the following is translated from Swedish
"We are very pleased that he showed interest and came back to his roots and inspired the younger generation." says André Önnerlöv, who is property manager at Malå municipality.

The cost to open the arena in Hoglander's hometown of Mala cost around 60,000 SEK, which comes to a little over $8,500 CAD, but the final cost of opening the rink early could vary depending on electricity prices, SVT.se says.
